A few more days and school reopens, and I begin teaching again after a break of three years. This blog is, as its title plainly suggests, a modest one--a modest argument to encourage my students to read a little more. Should it also encourage anyone to think a little more on issues presented therein, and have a clearer perspective, a more informed view on them, this blog would have done more than I could hope for.

This is also the first time I am experimenting with the use of a blog for more explicitly teaching purposes, and so I am proceeding a little more slowly. The shape of the blog and the direction it will take will depend largely on how committed I am to the use of it and also feedback from my students.
